Re-Groovin' With Joey DeFrancesco

ree

The previous Cuppa Go post was one of the most popular ever! So, we're following up on those groovin' sounds, with a focus on one of the jazz revolutionaries featured in that post: Joey DeFrancesco. Through his prodigious talent and soulful style, Joey almost single-handedly brought the Hammond B-3 organ back to prominence in the jazz world. Thanks to a Cuppa Go regular reader in Texas for introducing me to Joey! Now, sit back and enjoy some great jazz music.

Finger Poppin' – Celebrating The Music Of Horace Silver - This 2009 jazz album features Joey DeFrancesco's interpretations of compositions by the iconic hard bop pianist and bandleader Horace Silver. Click the link and the entire album playlist will be down the right side of the new page.
One for Rudy - If you think the organ is a boring instrument, and wonder what it has to do with jazz, hold that thought and take a listen to this album: few organists—indeed few pianists—can make the listener gasp and cry and jump for joy as Joey DeFrancesco can. Click the link and the entire album playlist will be down the right side of the new page.
Project Freedom - This Joey DeFrancesco album, with bits of John Lennon's Imagine, and Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come, quotes from Let My People Go and Lift Every Voice And Sing--and that just hints at the powerful message in the music. Click the link and the entire album playlist will be down the right side of the new page.
In the Key of the Universe - Here's one more album from Joey, which has a special magic that happens when you cross spiritual soul-jazz with bluesy soul-jazz. Click the link and the entire album playlist will be down the right side of the new page.
